About Titleist Balls
The Titleist story starts in the USA in the early 1930s. One fine Sunday, a man named Phil Young was enjoying a round of golf with a pal who happened to be the head of the local hospital's X-ray department. When Young missed what should have been a sure putt, he became convinced that there was a problem with the ball.
Now, we've all blamed the ball after a bad miss, but few of us have ever done what Phil did next: he zipped off to the hospital with his friend and gave the ball an X-ray, which revealed that the core was indeed off-centre. Galvanised by this experience, Young teamed up with rubber specialist and fellow golf enthusiast Fred Bommer, and together they engineered the very first Titleist ball (introduced in 1935).
